Cygnet INK is a creative platform for Art and Design students and graduates of the University of Lincoln designed to bridge the gap between education and employment. Through a series of exhibitions, events and workshops, all of our members will be able to develop and showcase their talent, in areas that will benefit their prospective career. Understanding the importance of higher education, Cygnet INK’s services work around the different academic programs, allowing members to continue with their studies whilst they participate.
Cygnet INK believes that introducing fresh talent into the competitive market is imperative for the creative industry to survive. Our mission is to take that talent directly to the high street.
Cygnet INK was established in 2013. The companies mission remains the same, to bridge the gap between education and employment. Former third year Illustration students of the University of Lincoln and Co-founders Susie Hough, Kathryn Knight, Jenny Palmer, KM Sharp and Stephen Sharpe started up the company by producing an illustrated yearbook to promote students artwork as a collective. The yearbook was sold alongside the University of Lincoln end of year degree show and all profits of the book were passed to the next year of third year students to do the same. The yearbook is now on its third volume.
Since leaving education, co-founder Jenny Palmer organised an exhibition that took place at Hopkinson’s Gallery in Nottingham where 15 of the 2013 Illustration graduates exhibited artwork based on the theme of ‘Mid-summer’.
In December 2014, Illustration graduate Jessica Wickham took ownership of the business with the vision to develop the exhibitions and expand them across the University of Lincoln, giving students and other graduates a chance to exhibit and sell their artwork.
“Giving students and graduates the opportunities that I could only have dreamt about when I was a student is my number one priority! Having discovered myself how challenging the world of freelancing is, I wanted to create a platform where students can find security in their aspired careers before they graduate. ” JESSICA WICKHAM, MANAGING DIRECTOR
