Illustration Graduate 2015
Sarah grew up in Blackburn, in the North West, where she studied Art, English and Sociology at A Level and went on to complete a Foundation Course at her local College. Since graduating in 2015, Sarah won the ArtEscape competition, which led her to exhibit in her first solo exhibition, Layered Meanings, at the Sam Scorer Gallery in Lincoln.
Sarah likes to explore variations of composition, pictorial communication, visual metaphors and sequential imagery from a story in her artwork. Her delicate style shows her craftsmanship as well as her ability to connect with emotion and underlying meanings. Her passion for printmaking and her fascination with the exterior of the Cathedral helped inspire her lino cutting of the west front. Sarah wanted to capture the warmth and the light of the Cathedral’s stonework, which can be seen both on a sunny day and lit up at night.
Focusing on establishing her career as freelancer is Sarah’s biggest aspiration, with the future aim to work with all ages and abilities, teaching workshops and sharing her creativity. Sarah is currently building a body of work consisting of printmaking, pen and ink drawings, watercolour and digital illustration that responds to her interests in film, editorial and personal experiences.
